Palermo

Palermo is the capital of Sicily and fifth largest city in Italy (660,460 inhabitants, but more than one million Whereas' s hinterland). In the middle of the Mediterranean, the cradle of the oldest civilization, the city has always been a crossroads of cultures between East and West. Strategic place of transit stopover privileged to commercial traffic and commercial port of peoples of different races, languages and religions, Palermo has attracted foreign visitors and for its happy position, mild climate and the beauty of the place. Even so, many have been, over the centuries, the rulers suffered.

Not many in the world, cities such as Palermo, have kept many testimonies of the culture of the conquerors: Romans to the Byzantines, the Arabs to the Normans, the Swabians to the French, by the Spanish to the Austrians, all have left the unmistakable track of their stay, and almost always this is evidence of extraordinary value, as the confluence of shapes and styles, from Northern Europe to Africa, the Middle Ages to the Baroque, has often led to unusual artistic, architectural and decorative.

This is the other peculiarities of Palermo: that, despite the mix of cultures, the city has retained its identity. A capital city that in every time has been able to combine the best of other nations with its vocation of freedom.
